You didn't really think you'd be working at the Merc one day, did you?

If you have any remaining illusions about that, read this.

This is not a temporary situation that will correct itself, the way the stock market does. This is a paradigm shift, and the newspapers still believe the sun revolves around the earth.

Oh yeah. I work at the Merc right now as a lowly clerk (thank god I am cheap or I would be getting the boot) and I definately don't have elusions of working at a newspaper when I graduate. Those days are over but I think instead of holding on to that last thead of what was the media giant of the 20th century, the new class of journalists should jump into online media and make it their own. There will always be a need for writers and reporters, its just they may look like Lois Lane...they may look like Scoble or Dooce.

P.S. I have not written about this in by blog because I don't want to get dooced. I guess its public knowledge now.

I work at the Merc too. I have thought about blogging about the situation as well, but also did not want to get given the boot as a result.
