Say it isn't so

I have to tell you, I was extremely disappointed in the poor turnout at Robert Scoble's presentation yesterday afternoon. And terribly saddened by this comment from a professor who's been here longer than I have: "Our students don't do anything unless they know they're being graded for it."

That is not true and I would have liked to have gone if I didn't have to work. Unfortunately, what that professor doesn't take into consideration is that many SJSU students work to put themselves through college, like myself. It is unfortunate that a faculty member at our school has such low expectations of us.

I would have also like to have gone to the presentation yesterday, but like Kelly I too have work and on top of that homework that takes hours and hours to do. I have many things going on and I am very overwhelmed at this point. Some professors don't even consider that many students are independent from their parents, that means no money and less time for things other than work.

Not to sound redundant, but I whole-heartedly agree with Kelley and Megan. I also have a job that pays my bills and I couldn’t afford to take a night off of work especially on short notice. Perhaps if this event was publicized a bit more in advance more students would have been able to work it in their schedules. I only knew about it through this class. I was bummed I couldn’t go, but it wasn’t for a lack of interest.

I find it disappointing that an 'educated' person, such as the professor you speak of, would make such a vacuous remark.

Catch the next visit! I hope there will be another one soon. Robert was extremely informative, while fun, and entertaining. I think the comment made by the professor was made out of disappointment, and didn't take into account the responsibilities a student has outside of the classroom.

That is a pretty outragous claim. I felt gulity for about two seconds until I relized that that day I drove an hour home to go to work untill 1:30am. So I don't really think the problem is students, it's jaded professors who forget that college isn't what it used to be. Most students have to work, and a large percent commute fromother cities all over the Bay Area.

I feel perfectly comfortable saying I was not interested in attending this event. However, if you feel like you missed out, you can listen to Scoble engage in a conversation over dinner at GB
